What an accumulator is
An accumulator, also known as an acca, combines multiple selections into a single bet. It returns only when every part wins. Its return is the stake multiplied by the odds of every leg.
What the returns look like
These rows use a £10 stake on four legs at odds of 2.0, 1.5, 3.0 and 2.0. They come from the same calculation as the calculator above.
| Result | Returns |
|---|---|
| All four legs win | £180.00 |
| Leg 2 is void, the others win | £120.00 |
| The last leg loses | £0.00 |
Three winners out of four still returns £0.00. Every leg has to win, and one loser takes the whole return away.
How the return builds, leg by leg
When all four legs win, the £10 stake grows with each leg until it reaches £180.00.
| Leg | Odds | Worth after this leg |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2.00 | £20.00 |
| 2 | 1.50 | £30.00 |
| 3 | 3.00 | £90.00 |
| 4 | 2.00 | £180.00 |
Accumulators and cover bets
An accumulator is one bet. A cover bet spreads the same selections over several bets, so it can still return when one of them loses. The Trixie calculator settles three selections over four bets, the Yankee calculator settles four selections over eleven, and the Lucky 15 calculator adds the four singles.
How this calculator works
- Odds can be typed as decimals (3.5), fractions (5/2) or evens.
- Choose Won, Lost or Void for each leg. A void leg is counted as odds of 1.0.
- Tick each way to add a place bet at the same stake. Choose the place terms your bookmaker offers on the race.
- Add or remove legs. An accumulator here has from 2 to 15 legs.
- Bookmaker bonuses are not included. Only the base bet is settled.
Questions
- What is an accumulator bet?
- An accumulator, also called an acca, combines multiple selections into a single bet that returns only when every part wins.
- How do I work out accumulator returns?
- Multiply the stake by the odds of every leg. A £10 stake on legs at 2.0, 1.5, 3.0 and 2.0 has combined odds of 18.00, so it returns £180.00.
- What happens if one leg loses?
- The accumulator returns nothing, because every leg has to win.
- What happens to a void leg?
- This calculator counts a void leg as odds of 1.0, so the bet carries on with the remaining legs. Check your bookmaker's rules for how it settles a void leg.
- How does each way work in an accumulator?
- An each-way accumulator is two bets at the same stake, a win bet and a place bet, so the total stake is doubled. The place bet pays a fraction of each leg's odds, using the place terms you choose.
- How is an accumulator different from a Trixie or a Yankee?
- An accumulator is one bet, and it returns only when every leg wins. A Trixie and a Yankee spread their selections over several bets, so they can return when one selection loses.
- How many legs can I enter?
- From 2 to 15 legs.
- Does this calculator include bookmaker bonuses?
- No. It settles the base bet only. Bonuses differ between bookmakers and change with promotions, so check your bookmaker's terms.
