What a Lucky 31 is

A Lucky 31 combines five selections into every single, double, treble, four-fold and five-fold. That makes 31 separate bets, and each one is staked on its own.

Four-folds5Every group of four

One winner, and still down

A £1-per-line Lucky 31 costs £31. If only one selection wins, at decimal odds of 5.00, the base return is £5 and you are £26 down.

The five singles are why a single winner always returns something. That return may not cover the total stake, though, because the doubles, trebles, four-folds and five-fold all contain a loser and pay nothing. The calculator opens on exactly this case, so you can change a result and watch the lines switch on.

Each way means 62 lines

Tick each way and the bet doubles: a win line and a place line for every combination. A £1-per-line each-way Lucky 31 costs £62, not £31.

The place part settles at the win odds reduced by the place fraction, applied to the profit rather than the whole price. At 5.0 with 1/4 terms, that is 1 + (5 − 1) ÷ 4 = 2.0. Pick the place terms from your slip, because they change with the race. The each-way calculator covers a single each-way bet in more detail.

Lucky 31, Lucky 15 and the Canadian

A Lucky 15 uses four selections and has 15 lines. A Lucky 31 adds a fifth selection, which makes 31 lines. A Canadian, also called a Super Yankee, uses the same five selections but leaves out the five singles, so it has 26 lines. The singles are what separate a Lucky 31 from a Canadian. A Lucky 63 adds a sixth selection and has 63 lines.

For a smaller multiple without the singles, the Yankee calculator settles four selections in 11 lines.

How this calculator settles

  • Odds can be typed as decimals (5.0), fractions (4/1) or evens.
  • A line returns its stake times the odds of every selection in it, and nothing if any selection in it lost.
  • A void selection is settled at odds of 1.0. Your bookmaker's rules decide the real settlement.
  • Bookmaker bonuses and refunds are not included. They differ between bookmakers.
  • Each line is shown to the penny. The total is rounded once from the unrounded lines, so the lines can differ from it by a penny or two.

Questions

How many bets are in a Lucky 31?
There are 31 bets: five singles, ten doubles, ten trebles, five four-folds and one five-fold accumulator.
How much does a £1 Lucky 31 cost?
A £1-per-line win-only Lucky 31 costs £31, because it has 31 lines. A £1-per-line each-way Lucky 31 has 62 lines, so it costs £62.
Do all five selections need to win?
No. The five singles mean one winner can return money, but that one return may still be less than the total stake. Each extra selection that wins switches on more doubles, trebles, four-folds and the five-fold.
What is the difference between a Lucky 31 and a Canadian?
Both use five selections. A Lucky 31 includes the five singles, which makes 31 lines. A Canadian, also called a Super Yankee, leaves the singles out and has 26 lines.
What is the difference between a Lucky 31 and a Lucky 15?
A Lucky 15 has four selections and 15 lines. A Lucky 31 adds a fifth selection, which brings in more doubles, trebles and four-folds and a five-fold, for 31 lines.
How is an each-way Lucky 31 settled?
Each way doubles the lines from 31 to 62: a win line and a place line for every combination. The place part settles at the win odds reduced by the place fraction, applied to the profit. At 5.0 with 1/4 terms, the place part settles at 1 + (5 − 1) ÷ 4 = 2.0.
Does this calculator include bookmaker bonuses?
No. It settles the base bet only. Bonuses and refunds are set by each bookmaker, so check the terms on your slip.
