What a Trixie is

A Trixie is a full cover bet with three selections in different events. It is made up of four bets: three doubles and one treble. To get a return, at least two of the selections must win.

Each bet is placed at the same stake, so a £1 stake on each bet costs £4. Add a fourth selection and you have a Yankee, which has its own Yankee calculator.

What the returns look like

These rows use odds of 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 and a £1 stake on each of the four bets, so the total stake is £4.00. They come from the same calculation as the calculator above.

Returns from a Trixie at odds of 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 by how many selections win
ResultBets that returnReturns
One selection wins0£0.00
Selections 1 and 2 win1£6.00

A return is not always a profit. With selections 1 and 2 both winning at 1.5 and selection 3 at 4.0 losing, the one double that wins returns £2.25 from a total stake of £4.00.

How a Trixie differs from an accumulator

An accumulator combines selections into a single bet that returns only when all of them win. A Trixie spreads the same three selections over four bets, so it can still return when one of them loses. It also costs four stakes where the accumulator costs one.

How this calculator works

  • Odds can be typed as decimals (3.5), fractions (5/2) or evens.
  • Choose Won, Lost or Void for each selection. A void selection is counted as odds of 1.0 in every bet it is in.
  • Tick each way to add a place part to every bet. Choose the place terms your bookmaker offers on the race.
  • Choose a stake per bet, or a total stake that is spread evenly over the bets.
  • Bookmaker bonuses and refunds are not included. Only the base bet is settled.

Questions

What is a Trixie bet?
A Trixie is a full cover bet with 3 selections in different events. It is made up of 4 bets: 3 doubles and 1 treble.
How many selections must win for a Trixie to return?
At least 2 of the 3. Every bet in a Trixie has at least two selections in it, so a single winner returns nothing.
How do I work out the returns on a Trixie?
Work out each bet on its own. A double returns its stake multiplied by the odds of both selections, and the treble multiplies the odds of all three. Add up the bets that won.
How much does a Trixie cost?
A Trixie is 4 bets at the same stake, so a £1 stake on each bet costs £4 in total. An each-way Trixie is 8 bets, so £1 each way costs £8.
How is a Trixie different from a three-selection accumulator?
An accumulator on three selections is a single bet that returns only when all three win. A Trixie is 4 bets, and it can still return when one selection loses.
Does a return from a Trixie always mean a profit?
No. A Trixie costs 4 stakes, so two winners at short odds can return less than the total stake.
What is the difference between a Trixie and a Yankee?
A Trixie has 3 selections and 4 bets. A Yankee has 4 selections and 11 bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a four-fold accumulator.
Does this calculator include bookmaker bonuses?
No. It settles the base bet only. Bonuses and refunds differ between bookmakers and change with promotions, so check your bookmaker's terms.
